Our Discipline Matrix
On January 15, 2021, in compliance with Local Law 69 of 2020, the NYPD released its “Disciplinary System Penalty Guidelines,” commonly referred to as the “Discipline Matrix,” which provides an overview of the goals of internal discipline, defines the presumptive penalties for specific acts of substantiated misconduct by officers and outlines potential aggravating and mitigating factors that may be considered when assessing a disciplinary penalty. The matrix was developed with input from community stakeholders, advocacy groups, and the public at large, and will ensure that all members of service are held accountable for his or her conduct, based upon reasonable standards.
