Crime Complaint Report Copy
If you filed a complaint report with the NYPD, you can obtain verification that your report was submitted or obtain a copy of the police report.
- Verification of Crime/Lost Property Police Report You can request a copy of a Verification of Crime/Lost Property Report by visiting Verification of Police Report. To receive verification, you must submit a notarized authorization letter (page 2 of the form) in addition to completing the form and providing a stamped and self-addressed envelope.
- Copy of a Police Report To obtain a copy of the complaint report, please visit FOIL request and submit an online Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request at least 24 hours after you submitted the complaint report. Click on “Request a Record,” skip Category and select “New York City Police Department (NYPD)” from the Agency drop-down. After you fill out the online form and submit it you will immediately receive a confirmation number you should save for your records. Alternatively, requests may be submitted in writing via mail or in person at the FOIL Unit located at One Police Plaza. For all in person requests, you must call (646) 610 – 5296 and schedule an appointment. In order to expedite your request, all requests should include the complaint number (if known) and/or any relevant information that would assist foil investigators in locating the requested complaint (e.g., name, date, location, precinct, etc.). In the event your request seeks a record that is either related to a sealed arrest or includes the personally identifiable information of another person, you must provide a notarized written authorization from the person whose sealed or personally identifiable information is sought. Please be advised when making a request online to upload a form of photo identification with your request.
